Jean Calogero è stato uno dei pittori siciliani più importanti al mondo?
Jean, nome d’arte di Giovanni Calogero, nacque a Catania il 20 Agosto 1922. Sin dall’età adolescenziale si appassionò al disegno e alla pittura, tanto che preferì trasferirsi in Francia per approfondire maggiormente le sue conoscenze.
Nel 1949 firmò il suo primo contratto artistico per la galleria Hervé di Parigi e da lì iniziò a crescere sempre di più il suo successo. Nel 1957 venne premiato nella capitale francese con il massimo riconoscimento ad artisti viventi: la Grande Medaglia d’Argento.
Nonostante gli innumerevoli soggiorni all’estero, Jean Calogero portò sempre la sua amata Sicilia all’interno dei suoi dipinti, ma soprattutto è evidente il legame con la sua città natia in una serie di opere che ritraggono la Festa di Sant’Agata o il Duomo catanese.
Dopo il soggiorno parigino, Jean Calogero si trasferì definitivamente ad Aci Castello dove morì il 15 Novembre 2001.

Was Jean Calogero one of the most important Sicilian painters in the world?
Jean, the stage name of Giovanni Calogero, was born in Catania on August 20, 1922. Since his adolescence he became passionate about drawing and painting, so much so that he preferred to move to France to further deepen his knowledge.
In 1949 he signed his first artistic contract for the Hervé gallery in Paris and from there his success began to grow more and more. In 1957 he was awarded in the French capital with the highest recognition for living artists: the Great Silver Medal.
Despite countless stays abroad, Jean Calogero always brought his beloved Sicily into his paintings, but above all the link with his native city is evident in a series of works that portray the Feast of Sant’Agata or the Duomo of Catania.
After his stay in Paris, Jean Calogero moved permanently to Aci Castello where he died on November 15, 2001.
